Steph’s Summer List: Books, Music & Memories
A little about Steph.
Gardening is Steph’s happy place. It’s equal parts exercise, nourishment, and meditation, and it keeps her stocked with fresh herbs, veggies, and cut flowers all season. She pairs that with a daily morning walk that does as much for her soul as her body. Live music is her favorite way to spend time away from home, and this summer she’s putting down roots in the garden while racking up concert tickets.
On Her Playlist:
- Mumford & Sons, Prizefighter: Her go-to for weeding season. Give “Clover” a listen, since its theme of contentment matches exactly where Steph’s at inching closer to her 40s. Bonus: She’s seeing them live this summer.
Other live shows this summer include: Dave Matthews Band, Punch Brothers, and Switchfoot.
Podcasts:
- When she’s not catching up with her mom during her morning walks, Good Hang with Amy Poehler and SmartLess keep her company. Her pick of the season: Amy Poehler’s conversation with Viola Davis — good enough that it added The Woman King onto her summer watch list.
Work Books:
- The Advantage by Patrick Lencioni: A re-read that’s hitting differently now that she’s deeper into culture work with clients.
- The Work of Leaders by Julie Straw, Mark Scullard, Susie Kukkonen, and Barry Davis: Another re-read, this time landing on the leadership components that connect culture and people to strategy and change management, her favorite part of the work at Lumen.
A Fun Read:
- The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon – Her mom has been telling her that the connection to Scottish history plus the writing about medicinal plants is really an interesting read. And so far, she agrees!
Summer Trips:
- All things Michigan with the family: the Upper Peninsula, the Lake Michigan shoreline, a minor league baseball game, and the Fourth of July up north. Steph’s take: there’s no better place to be in summer than home.
