We were driving fast somewhere, but we weren’t all headed to the same destination. Through our work with Lumen Impact Group, we were able to identify weaknesses in our organization as well as areas with great opportunity. We were able to take this insight and transform our approach to supporting schools. Now we talk about Choice Schools being in partnership with boards to be a firm, steady, consistent foundation for our leaders to count on so all other stakeholders have a smooth road.
Sarah Wildey, CEO, Choice Schools

Through Lumen Impact’s planning process, the Choice Schools team realized investing more in its organizational culture and leadership would better equip it to empower schools and create positive results for students. This belief led to an extended engagement.

Working with Lisa Diaz, Choice Schools better defined its organizational values and the expectations for how those would be lived out within the organization.

“We were working really hard, but without unity,” CEO Sarah Wildey said. “As our company grew, preserving the close family culture had become challenging. Through the culture work with Lumen Impact, we not only were able to better understand the state of our current culture, we were able to unite around values, behaviors, and expectations.”

Choice executives also participated in personalized leadership coaching with Lisa — support that continues today. Through highly tailored one-on-one coaching, Insignia challenges Choice’s leaders to explore their strengths and barriers to success.

With Lisa’s guidance, leaders dive deep into what motivates and demotivates them, the factors that influence their leadership style, and how they can leverage their mindset and approach to best support every member of their team, their coworkers, and their schools.

The initial planning process, culture, and leadership work with Lumen Impact Group put Choice Schools on a defined strategic path with a clear vision for moving forward.

“Lisa helped us grow personally and professionally. With her guidance and coaching, we became stronger leaders with the mindful influence, approach, and tools to do great things for schools and students,” Wildey said.

“Our work with Lumen Impact gave us a sense of relief,” she said. “We know where we’re going and how to get there. It also gave us great clarity on how to make decisions. I can’t imagine not having gone through this process with Lumen Impact Group.”

Testimonials

"“They don’t tell you what you want to hear. They tell you what you need to hear. That makes a huge difference. We needed to understand our weaknesses in order to make the organization work right, and I was overwhelmed by how they really got it and they helped us to get it too. They were able to do it in a way that really made me want to understand the goals we needed to focus on. I believe Lumen was absolutely the best we could have found.”"

"“I’ve been in nonprofits for 30+ years and have used the services of many consultants, but I have never been so comfortable with their commitment to helping us. It was as if the Lumen team shared our need to have a successful outcome and they were committed to the notion that they would indeed bring value to what we were doing.“ "
Caroline Novak
Alabama School Readiness Alliance
"“The Lumen team did a really good job sharing the hard truths with us. Their findings were different from what we were expecting, but they used the information to push us farther than we originally planned. They were candid and didn’t hide anything from us. We’re now on the path to developing products that are very different from what we’ve done before but are hopefully much more useful for the people we serve.” "
Drew Jacobs
National Alliance of Public Charter Schools
"“The management of a federal CSP grant is a really niche area that requires a tremendous depth of expertise and technical know-how. You need to have a microscopic attention to detail when it comes to compliance and reporting timeliness. The Lumen team is excellent at all of the above." "

"“In my coaching, we make really strong, specific plans for next steps and then we follow up on them in our next conversation. We try to keep those next steps really manageable. When I’m busy, I can’t layer a ton of personal growth on top of my other responsibilities, so we make plans for growth that are baked into the work I’m already doing. That has been really helpful for me.” "
